Brunet-García and Castaño Group announce the launch of "100 Plates," an interactive installation to bring awareness to the struggles of hunger during the holidays.
More than 117,000 people in Duval County alone experience hunger or food insecurity, putting it among the highest in Florida. Brunet-García hopes to demonstrate the power of giving by directing donations to Feeding Northeast Florida.
"In our community, families often must choose between buying food or paying their bills," said Diane Brunet-García, agency owner and vice president. "Feeding America estimates that providing 100 meals a month would help a food insecure family make ends meet. It takes only $10 for Feeding America to bridge this gap through its network of regional food banks."
Feeding Northeast Florida helps local children & families, seniors, and veterans that struggle to put food on the table. Working with local grocery stores, manufacturers, and farms we rescue high-quality food that would normally be wasted and transform it into meals for those in need.
By connecting millions of pounds of rescued food to a network of over 180 social service agencies– like City Rescue Mission, The Sulzbacher Center, and The Salvation Army- these hunger-relief partners are able to provide not only food to those in need, but services that can help these families and individuals end the cycle of poverty- including job training or placement, low-cost childcare, SNAP benefits, medical care, affordable housing, and counseling. In 2015, Feeding Northeast Florida provided nearly 12.5 million meals to our network of social service agencies in eight counties throughout Northeast Florida.
